Dutch Usenet Access Provider XS News joins IWF

Published:  Wed 23 Nov 2016

The latest company to join Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) Membership is XS News.

The Dutch company gives quick and unlimited access to the Usenet - an international network of newsgroups whose main mission is to provide a free and decentralised platform for data and information exchange. XS News’ services offer unlimited speed and access to more than 200,000 newsgroups worldwide.

As a Member of the IWF, XS News will use IWF’s Newsgroup Takedown Service. Our Takedown Notices are immediate alerts we send out to newsgroup providers if we find child sexual abuse imagery on their services. This way, criminal content can be removed quicker and often at its source.

Torsten Schan, CEO of XS News, said: “Me and my team here at XSNews are very happy to be now an official member of the IWF and to support the efforts of the IWF as good as we can. I am sure that we can achieve a lot of great things together.”

Susie Hargreaves OBE, IWF CEO, said: “A very big welcome to XS New! Seeing that our work reaches more and more international companies is a huge step into stopping the distribution and hosting of child sexual abuse imagery worldwide. XS news is the first Dutch company to join IWF Membership, and I’m very keen to see what we can achieve together.”

What we do:

We make the internet a safer place. We help victims of child sexual abuse worldwide by identifying and removing online images and videos of their abuse. We search for child sexual abuse images and videos and offer a place for the public to report them anonymously. We then have them removed. We’re a not for profit organisation and are supported by the global internet industry and the European Commission.
