Payroll Giving is arranged by your employer’s payroll department. Once set up, donations will be taken from your salary every payday, after National Insurance but before tax. This reduces the cost to you, as Inland Revenue pays a proportion of your donation, according to your tax band.
For higher rate taxpayers, Payroll Giving is the only way that IWF can automatically receive all the tax on your charitable donation, making it a more efficient method of giving than adding Gift Aid to a Direct Debit.
You can change the amount you give, or stop donations, at any time.
To set up Payroll Giving, contact your payroll department or HR. Many employers are already signed up to a Payroll Giving Agency (See link below); if yours isn’t, they will need to contact a Payroll Giving Agency to set up a scheme. Some employers offer a matched Payroll Giving scheme, meaning that they’ll boost any donation that you make. When enquiring about Payroll Giving, be sure to ask your employer if they match (or even double-match!) Payroll Giving contributions.
Fill out a form to set up your donation. You can choose to make a recurring or one-off donation. Remember: if you want to donate £10, only £8 will be taken from your salary!
The donation will be taken from your salary, before tax.
