Payroll giving is an easy, tax-efficient way of donating through your salary.

We are an independent not-for-profit organisation, a charity. We need to raise money to fund our vital work to defend vulnerable children online.

That’s where some amazing people come in. They care about protecting youngsters on the web. They share our determination to stop, remove and prevent imagery of child sexual abuse from ever appearing on the internet. They want to make sure that child victims of sexual abuse are never forced to face the torment of having a record of their suffering viewed again and again online. They share our vision.

If you want to help, there are different ways to support us. One of the best ways is to donate through Payroll Giving.

What is it?

Payroll Giving or Give-as-you-earn is a simple, tax-effective way for people to donate. We’ve got a big job to do and we’re in it for the long haul. By donating via Payroll Giving, anyone on a PAYE salary can contribute directly to our work. Better still, the donation is taken before tax is deducted which means that our Give-as-you-earn heroes get tax relief on their donations. It’s a cost-effective way of giving.

This system of funding is arranged through your employer’s payroll departments. People who donate can change the amount they give, or stop donations at any time. The amount of tax relief people get depends on the rate of tax paid.

How payroll giving works

A £10 donation to us costs:

• £8 if you pay a basic rate tax (20 per cent)
• £6 if you pay a higher rate tax (40 per cent)
• £5.50 if you pay the 45 per cent rate

A £100 donation to us only costs you:

• £80 if you pay a basic rate tax (20 per cent)
• £60 if you pay a higher rate tax (40 per cent)
• £55.00 if you pay the 45 per cent rate

How donations help IWF

• £250 could pay for two of our Hotline analysts to have counselling sessions. Our analysts have a hard job. There are some images, some pictures that you can’t un-see. As part of our duty of care, we give our experts counselling. We make sure that they are coping. We support our people.
• £100 could pay for us to issue several ‘Takedown Notices’ to the tech companies hosting criminal images of children. We work fast to make sure the ‘Takedown’ time-clock ticks from the moment a notice is issued. We follow it up.
• £50 could pay for us to ‘hash’ images of child sexual abuse, preventing them from being shared or uploaded to the internet.
• £20 could pay for us to add webpages to our blocking list. This prevents children and adults from accidentally stumbling on to child sexual abuse photos and videos online.
• £10 could pay for us to remove a single webpage from the internet. It could show hundreds of images of child sexual abuse.

How to start up Payroll Giving

Employers can sign up to Payroll Giving online through a Payroll Giving Agency.

• Employees need to see if their employer has set up a Payroll Giving scheme. If you want to join us, ask your payroll or finance department. See if you’re able to donate via payroll giving.
• Employers need to contact a Payroll Giving agency to set up a scheme.
