About the event
The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) is hosting a satellite event ahead of the Second Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, taking place in Manila on 18–19 November 2026. Satellite events like this one bring together partners in the days before the main conference to broaden discussion and sharpen ambition ahead of the formal proceedings.
This session will explore how to strengthen the global systems that detect, report and remove online child sexual abuse material - focusing on what's actually working, where the barriers still lie, and what governments, hotlines and technology companies need to do next.
Why this matters
Online child sexual abuse is a fast-moving threat. New technologies are creating new risks - from AI-generated abuse imagery to the growing use of sexual extortion against older teenagers, alongside persistent, gendered abuse targeting girls. Systems built to fight yesterday's threats aren't always equipped for tomorrow's, and this event is about closing that gap.
What to expect
Panellists will share first-hand, evidence-based insight from hotlines working on the frontline of CSAM removal globally, including learnings from IWF's pioneering child-centred reporting platform - the first of its kind to let children self-report unwanted imagery for removal. The session will also offer a first look at IWF's upcoming study into the challenges of protecting children in end-to-end encrypted environments, and what privacy-preserving solutions can look like in practice.
