Protecting children in Albania and around the world

Information for Internet Service Providers, Mobile Network Operators and Satellite Internet Service Providers in Albania.

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AKEP (the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority) and AKSK (the National Cyber Security Authority) to help stop child sexual abuse material from being accessed in Albania.

This page is for all Internet Service Providers, Mobile Network Operators and Satellite Internet Service Providers in Albania, to inform you of the MoU between AKEP, AKSK and IWF and the relevant law (Albanian legislation Law no. 25/2024) and Council of Minister’s Decision no. 465 dated 03/07/2019 to work with ISPs and/or MNOs in Albania to block certain URLs and/or Domains.

Vodafone Albania has set the precedent

Vodafone has been an IWF Member since 2004 and Vodafone Albania already uses our services to block access to child sexual abuse material. We are now inviting every connectivity provider serving the people of Albania to follow their lead.

What we're asking providers to do

  1. Join IWF Membership.

  2. Implement our Domain-level Blocking List, to block access to complicit websites where our analysts have confirmed child sexual abuse material. We refer to these as Commercial or Dedicated websites.

  3. Show a deterrence message (splash page) to anyone who tries to access a blocked page, explaining why it has been blocked and signposting them to confidential help from Stop It Now, run by the Lucy Faithfull Foundation. Full details on installing the deterrence messaging are included in our URL List guide, which Members receive when they join.

Find out more about the URL List

Our URL List is updated throughout the day by our expert analysts. It includes the Domain-level Blocking List, which blocks entire websites set up specifically to provide access to child sexual abuse material.
