In July, our Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Michael Tunks, compered the UK’s Internet Governance Forum (UKGIF) alongside TechUK’s Alice Campbell.
The forum considered the issues of cybersecurity, data protection, fragmentation, online safety, gender and digital transformation.
The UKIGF’s report was then presented at the United Nations Internet Governance Forum in Japan which was attended by our Chair Andrew Puddephatt, independent trustee Andrew Campling and Government minister John Whittingdale.
In June, our Head of Policy and Public Affairs also participated at the European Dialogue on Internet Governance in Tampere, Finland, on a panel discussing the European Commission’s proposal for a regulation to prevent and combat child sexual abuse online.
In September, we responded to a consultation from the Irish regulator for Online Safety, Coimisiún na Meán, about its draft plans to implement the Video Sharing Platform regime and its forthcoming online safety regime.
Our response included highlighting the fact child sexual abuse must be dealt with as a priority, ensuring close regulatory alignment with the EU’s Digital Services Act and a principles-based approach to regulation.
