How to make a Report

If you wish to make a report simply click on the "Report" button in the top right hand corner of the web page. This button appears in the same place on every page.

The Reporting page has been designed to make any report a simple and easy procedure to follow.

Through the Reporting page, you can tell us about potentially illegal content within our remit from virtually any form of interactive medium, including email, (usually SPAM), web-sites, newsgroups (also known as usenet groups), proprietary clubs, groups and communities.

When accessing the reporting page you need to select the box that applies to the content you want to report.

Beside each selection is an Info Icon button. Clicking on this will provide you with a simple description of that type of content.

It is important to note, that the IWF only takes reports on the content listed, if you want to report other illegal content, such as phishing scams, financial scams or similar, then please read our FAQ's, where we can direct you to other organisations that will help you in these matters.

Once you have selected the type of content you wish to report, you will be asked to tell us where you found it. For each option you will be given extensive instructions on what information is required.

If you select ‘email’ a list will appear with the most commonly reported SPAM emails that are known to us.  SPAM emails are Unsolicited Bulk Emails (UBE) sent to a large number of email addresses.

If you were planning to report an email that is listed, then please do not continue as we have already referred the matter to the relevant organisation.

When asked to complete 'Your Details' you only need to provide this information if you wish to be able to find out what has happened to your specific report. If you provide us with your email address, then you will receive a confirmation email which contains a reference number to that particular report.

The IWF will not pass your information onto Law Enforcement Agencies without your permission to do so. Additionally, under the terms of the Data Protection Act, we hold your information for a maximum of 90 days, after which it is deleted from our system. All your information is private and it is not shared with any third party organisation.

If you do not wish to provide contact details, you can choose to remain anonymous. If you select this option, you will not receive a confirmation email with a unique reference number and it will not be possible to inform you of the progress of any report you make.
